Nasi lemak

Nasi lemak ni mengundang banyak nostalgia. My mum basically made the best nasi lemak ever. So there is so much good memories. I can finish 2 or three plates of her nasi lemak. Walaupun aku dah rase banyak nasi lemak yang sedap, nasi lemak mak aku ade kelainan tersendiri. Sambal dia memang terbaik. The condiments all work perfectly together. I am so fortunate to have her great recipe….

Verdict

Nyonya baked fish is such a letdown. I expect the dish to be awesome as the price was ‘awesome’ too( RM29.90).The rice was very dry and lukewarm. The sauce make up the weakness of the dish. It was spicy and sour. Bold flavor. The baked fish was average though. The fresh ulam was fresh.  My favourite was the drink. It was fresh, creamy, and of course nutritious too. The ambience was great. The service was bad though. I wait for almost 10- 15 minutes before my order was taken and the waiter forgot to place fork and knife on my plate. The service staff was not friendly. It has great variety of menu. It also has various promotion such as discounts, set meals etc. The price was outrageous. I understand that the ingredients used was organic, fresh and the menu was prepared homemade, making it understandably more expensive than regular restaurant but somehow I dont feel it was worth it. It was a great place for those who are health-conscious though.

Extra: What is MSG????

MSG is one of the worst food additives on the market and is used in canned soups, crackers, meats, salad dressings, frozen dinners and much more. It’s found in your local supermarket and restaurants, in your child’s school cafeteria and, amazingly, even in baby food and infant formula.

MSG is more than just a seasoning like salt and pepper, it actually enhances the flavor of foods, making processed meats and frozen dinners taste fresher and smell better, salad dressings more tasty, and canned foods less tinny.

While MSG’s benefits to the food industry are quite clear, this food additive could be slowly and silently doing major damage to your health.

MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain damage to varying degrees — and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease and more.

In conclusion, choose MSG-free food!!!

Loh bihun sup was a dissapointment. It has an off taste as if it was made yesterday. Thank god the other dishes save the day. I wish the pau was a bit warmer though. My favourite was the dimsum. The service was quite fast and accurate. There are lots of variety in the menu. The menu card was not so pleasing though. Average. The furniture  and overall atmosphere was lacking. Average. It is suitable for family dining.  There are ample parking space so it should not be a problem. The restaurant should do promotion such as discounts, vouchers,  to attract more customers.  The price was bit expensive though. Overall, it was an average restaurant with healthy choice of menu.

Pak John Steamboat and Yong Tau Fu@Wangsa Maju

Selamat Hari raya!!!

We are still in the month of Syawal so I guess it is still not too late for me  to wish to all my readers Selamat Hari Raya!!!

Eid this year for me was less merrier that the previous year because most of my married siblings celebrate Eid with their beloved in-law’s family. On the bright side, I have got the highest amount of ‘duit raya’ in my entire life….Just  for reflection…How do you fare in the last Ramadhan??? Hopefully we will be given the chance to have another Ramadhan next year…Insya Allah..

Assignment and Project…

After weeks of laziness and un-productivity during Eid celebration, I went back to  Shah Alam with “piles” of assignments. One of them is we have to go to a few healthy restaurants In KL and do report and video on healthy eating. So we chose Pak John Steamboat and Yong Tau Fu. I decided to include this in my food review too because it is a great restaurant…

Pak John Steamboat and Yong Tau Fu

PAK John Steamboat & Yong Tao Foo is a restaurant that aims to offer a wide variety of steamboat and yong tau foo treats at an affordable price for the halal market. The steamboat pot is designed to contain one kind of soup, while the grill in the centre allows diners to barbecue their meats. The restaurant emphasised good food quality and affordable mid-range pricing. Everything at the restaurant is made locally, including the sweet and spicy sauces. The restaurant, which does not serve alcohol, has a 120-person seating capacity.

Menu

The restaurant’s menu lists some very premium seafood and meats. The former, which requires at least two days’ advanced reservations and are based on seasonal pricing, includes Australian lobster, Australian meat crab, and Australian abalone.

The steamboat menu alone features 70 ingredients that can be boiled or grilled, including seafood, surimi seafood (fish-based food product) and vegetables. Diners can take their pick from the available steamboat sets, which come in the form of standard sets and premium sets, with the latter offering premium meats like salmon belly and Japanese baby scallop. The steamboat ingredients are also available a la carte, though a minimum order of five a la carte items is required when dining without a steamboat set. Steamboat meals come served with chicken soup but those who prefer curry or tom yam soup can indulge themselves with an additional RM8 or RM10 respectively.

While waiting for their steamboat items to be cooked, diners can go for snacks like fried tempura nuggets, fried dumplings, fried tempura or smoked chicken chop as an appetiser. Meanwhile, yong tau foo and noodle value sets are only available from 10am to 5pm.The noodle value sets come with an option of curry, chicken or tom yam soup and 12 types of noodles and rice.

Verdict

All the ingredients- veggie, meatball, fried tempura, chicken dumpling, egg dumpling were fresh, tasty  and healthy!!!. The chicken soup tastes great and even greater when we add all the ingredients.  The home-made sauces adds spicy and bold flavor to the dining experiences.  The service was fast and accurate. The seating was comfortable. I felt cosy with the air-conditioned setting . There are huge variety of menu.  It was suitable for family dining with lots of space spanning 2 floors. They also have promotion every Wednesday. The price was a bit expensive but it is worth it…In my opinion, they need more marketing efforts and also open more branches because it is such a great place that more people deserve to know it.

Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita @ Wei machaa u want makan or tapau?

Exam lagi. Kawan-kawan. Ibu bapa. Orang yang tersayang. Aku perlukan masa untuk bersama mereka!!! Huhhhhh.

Time is priceless. You can never have it back once you lose it.

Berbuka puasa @ Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita

Wei machaa u want to eat or tapau?

1 Malaysia.

Makan time. Bismillah

Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita bukanlah kedai mamak yg biasa anda lepak. Hebat bukan!!!

Aku sebenarnya berbuka puasa di sini seorang diri.  Memang aku tak rancang nak buka puasa kat  mana hari tu( aku memang selalu macam ni). Pukul 6 atau 7 tu la baru aku fikir nak buka puasa kat mana . Nak reserve bagai memang tak la. Selalunya aku tapau kat mana-mana bazar dan makan kat rumah. Kawan-kawan aku pun selalunya tapau kat bazar. Nak makan kat restoran pun memang jarang . Boleh jimat duit hihihi. Teman rumah aku pulak berniaga dekat bazar stadium Shah Alam. Jadi kiranya memang aku selalu buka puasa sendiri.

Camera 360

Gambar di atas tak menggambarkan realiti sebenar

Nilah pemandangan dari tempat aku duduk. Sebenarnya aku berbuka puasa lambat sikit dalm pukul 8. Waktu berbuka puasa memang tempat ni penuh. Jadi kene datang awal. Tempat dia macam kedai mamak lain. Meja dan kerusi stainless steel. Senang nak bersihkan. Luas. Tak sempit untuk pekerja dan pelanggan bergerak. Memang ramai waiter. Jadi servis cepat. Duduk-duduk waiter terus ambil order. Waiter tak berapa peramah. Kene senyum sikit. Masam.

Camera 360

Ni kad menu @ chit order???

Menu dia dalam kertas biasa( aku tak pasti ni menu dia atau restoran dia tak ada menu).Tapi ni la yang waiter tu bagi masa aku minta kad menu .Tak menarik langsung walaupun banyak pilihan. Sup, rojak singapore, tandoori, nasi beriyani, roti canai, mee goreng, tosai, jus buah dan banyak lagi. Menu sepatutnya menjadi alat pemasaran. Menarik pelanggan melalui gambar-gambar yang menyelerakan. Jadi Nasi Kandar Pelita boleh keluarkan kad menu yang menarik macam restoran lain buat.

Camera 360

Burp.. Alhamdulillah

Camera 360

Sungguh lazat!!!!

Aku ambil nasi beriyani dan ayam madu. Banyak pilihan . Ketam masala, kambing ros, ayam kurma, kari ayam, kari kepala ikan, kari ikan, sambal udang dan banyak lagi. Macam biasa macha tu letak semua jenis kuah kat nasi aku. Nasi aku minta lebih. Da kebulur sangat.

Nasi dia memang terbaik. Rasa semua jenis rempah ratus yang digunakan. Dimasak dengan sempurna. Ayam madu dia pun sama. Seimbang rasa manis dan masin dia. Tukang masak dia bukan calang-calang. Berpuluh tahun pengalaman.Bukan senang nak dapat masakan sempurna macam tu. Ayam dia pun besar. Walaupun aku ambil nasi lebih, ayam dia cukup besar. Puas hati.

Aku ambil jus mangga. jus mangga dia pun terbaik!!!

Breaking Ramadan fast at Chili’s

In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious and the most Merciful.

ImageTime flies. It’s already the eighth day of Ramadhan. In our quest for worldly matter, we( me especially) usually forget about things that really matter in the world( and in the hereafter).

Life is short. Make every seconds of our life matter.

Chilies “Like No Place Else®”

Few days ago, i have the opportunity to dine at Chili’s at Empire Shopping Gallery . I can’t remember the last time I went here or other branches because it’s really a while ago.  I went here a bit late around 10 pm( this could be my sahur ). Camera 360

Camera 360

First, let me highlight on Chili’s background. It originates from Dallas, Texas as a hamburger joint. Today, Chili’s has more than 1,500 restaurants in 31 countries around the world. In Malaysia, the first Chili’s outlet is in Bangsar Shopping Centre. Other outlets are located at Suria KLCC, Mid Valley Megamall, 1 Utama, Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang and the latest edition is in CITTA Mall. It is pork-free.

Chili’s serves mainly Southwestern( United States) cuisine.Southwestern cuisine is similar to Mexican cuisine but often involves larger cuts of meat, and less use of parts not considered as desirable in the United States. Like Mexican cuisine, it is also known for its use of spices (particularly Chili pepper) and accompaniment with beans , cooked in a variety of manners.

Eattttt!!!!!!!!!!!!

The moment I stood at the entrance of Chili’s, the first thing that captured  my attention is the brick wall. At the entrance, there should be a hostess to greet and usher in the customers but i found none. It took a few minutes for me and my friend to be seated at the table.

We were seated beside the window, overlooking not-so-gorgeous cityscape of Subang.  I really like the table and lantern lamp. The table was colorfully tiled with great patterns. and the lantern lamp actually has a menu on it. Unique.I would say red color dominates the interior. Red chair, red table. Thank god, the wall is not. The color did make me even more hungrier. In fact, I was starving. The table and chairs was adequately spaced between each other. It was comfortable for the guests and employees. The lighting was perfect. Really set the atmosphere right. But some of the built in chairs were small though. Could’ve been bigger.

Camera 360

Camera 360

I didn’t wait too long for my orders to be taken. Quick. Not like when i went to other branch(i dont remember where). The waiter is helpful but not-so friendly. I took a few minutes to decide on my order. The waiter was knowledgeable about the menu. I asked her about the menu and her answer was satisfactory. I ordered Southwestern Beef  Quesadillas, Guava Juice and Chicken Mushroom Soup. There was special Ramadan menu promotion. 3 combos available: RM33.95, RM38.95 and RM51.95( not including drinks). I took RM38.95 one. I can always share with my friend. Most of the time, I can’t finish the whole meal by myself. They serve BIG portion.

Image

The menu( click on the image for original view)

The menu card was interesting. Full of mouth-watering pictures and vibrant colors. Interesting  description add more appeals. Lots of variety too. Starters, soup, salad, sandwiches, burgers, fajitas, quesadillas, steak, seafood, dessert, you name it.  There are separate dessert menu card always placed on the table. Nice marketing strategies to increase dessert sale.

Image

Chicken mushroom soup

My chicken mushroom soup and drink came simultaneously. After not more than 5 minutes I ordered. Quick. Most probably processed. The soup was served in a tiny cute bowl on a basket layered with some kind of paper.  Different. The soup was served with 2 Jacobs crackers. It was hot. Good. Pepper dominates the flavor. It was just nice. Not overpowering. Tender small cut of chicken and mushroom completed the meal. The celery and thyme flavors were not evident though.  The texture was perfect. Neither too runny nor too thick. The smell was as good as the taste. The cracker makes a decent combination.Crisp and fatty. The one you can  find in the supermarket. I wish they give more crackers. 2 obviously is not enough. As good as it was, I couldn’t finish it by the end of the meal because  I was just too full from the quesadillas.

The guava juice was average. Not so juicy. Obviously processed. On the bright side, it was bottomless. Means you can refill it over and over again. So generous of Chili’s. Other restaurants could emulate their step. Hihihihi. I managed to refill twice only. Enough to make my stomach bloated. The waiters were quick to refill the glass.

Camera 360

Guava Juice

After around 10 minutes, my quesadillas arrived. The waiter who delivered the food this time was friendly. He smiled always. The food do not impress me too much in term  of presentation. But credit for the effort. The tortillas were systematically arranged around the sour cream and pico de gallo. It was weird for me personally. Instead of putting the pico de gallo and sour cream at the center, I would prefer placing it at edge of the plate and then the tortillas around it. The plate used was perhaps unsuitable for the presentation. A bit small.Better stack it to save space.

Camera 360

Southwestern Beef Quesadillas

The tortillas was slightly warm. Not cold. I prefer it warmer though. It was crispy outside and succulent inside. Some was perfectly browned and some looked pale. Removed from pan too early. Need more heat. The beef was slightly overcooked but still smooth. I prefer some of the pico de gallo to be inside the tortillas. I tasted only grilled sliced onion, Jack cheese and the beef. Need more flavors. I had to insert some of the pico de gallo inside the tortillas. With pico de gallo, the tortillas was heavenly. Full of bold flavors. Tomatoes, cilantro, onion, Jalapeno and lime juice. Without pico de gallo, the tortillas were average.  The sour cream was perfect too. Thick and tart. I’m not a big fan though.

In front of me,  there was a long row of guests having a good time chatting and laughing. It was pretty loud. At other part of the restaurant, a couple was celebrating  birthday. The staffs sang birthday song dedicated to them. It was a lot of fun. The restaurant was perfect for family/friends gathering, couple and special occasions. So next time you are planning one special occasion you want everyone to remember, make sure Chili’s is in the list!!!Great food, big portion, competitive price, friendly service.
